Come Ride With Us

With less than a month to go, preparations are underway for the tenth annual Tour de Shawnee cyclists’ ride scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2018. Alexander County Tourism (ACT) encourage local businesses to participate with donations and in-kind sponsorships.

With more than 200 plus riders from six states last year, we expect even more participants this year. Rider feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we continue to make improvements to the event with the help of our business sponsors and local volunteers.

The ride originates at the Horseshoe Lake Community Center located on State Highway 3 in Olive Branch, Illinois. Cyclists may choose from a Century ride (100 miles), a Metric Century (62 miles), a Mid-length rides (30 miles) or a Leisurely ride (15 miles). The routes will wind through terrain that includes easy-ride flat stretches, rolling hills as well as a few (several) challenging hills. Unique rest stops with food and fluids will be conveniently located along the routes. The old Thebes Courthouse built in 1848 is always a favorite with the cyclists. The local 4-H club is set-up at Egyptian School. Cyclist will have the opportunity to leave the Wetland traveling several miles on the The last stop of the day for several of the routes will be the Pulaski Pecan Bonanza at the fairgrounds at Pulaski traveling to the Horseshoe Lake spillway before ending their ride at the Horseshoe Lake Community. Hot chili will be available for them as they end the day.

Cyclists can register online ( and further information can be found on the Tour de Shawnee Facebook page. Registrations received prior to October 7 cost $40 and guarantees a free event tee shirt. Contact the Alexander County Tourism Board of Directors for more information.
